In 2016, Outside Magazine rated Billings the #1 Best Town in America. We were stoked to see this underdog Montana town best some of the exclusive, scenic, ski resort towns of the West. Go Billings!
Known for it’s rimrock but also it’s refineries, what Billings really has going for it: some extremely dedicated folks working to improve the trails, walkability and general quality of life there. It’s just going to get better and better.
Our first visit was in winter, so we explored Zimmerman Park and Pictograph Cave State Park on foot. We got a taste, and can’t wait to come back in the summer with bicycles to ride the multi use trails of Swords Rimrock Park and Riverfront Park and the single track in Zimmerman. According to TrailsNet, there are over 40 miles of riding just around the city — and they are just getting started.
For trail beta, try the Spoke Shop, and the Chamber and make the most of a trip to Billings. Get out there and explore!
